The Scoop on Droop
As the temperature of an LED increases, the light output of the LED decreases. That describes in one simple sentence a complex, subatomic phenomenon known as ‘thermal droop’ – a fact of LED lighting that science has yet to fully explain, and that many fixture manufacturers choose to ignore. We don’t. We acknowledge it, account for it, and have engineered all Selador® Desire™ LED fixtures to compensate for droop.
Special thermal-management settings in Desire luminaires address the challenges that droop poses. These settings are especially relevant in applications like stage and architectural lighting where an LED fixture must maintain a consistent level of brightness (and color) over long periods of time. If a lighting designer sets a particular hue of purple in the morning and then returns that night, that hue should have held as true as possible – regardless of the increase in the LED fixture’s temperature throughout the day. We’ve worked to ensure that. The Desire luminaire’s settings are accessible and customizable, allowing you to adjust your fixtures to your specific uses to best avoid the negative impact of droop.
